Akan, terracotta memorial head in the Kwahu style, with long ringed neck, tall coiffure and scarification on cheeks and forehead. Remains of ritual material on both head and neck. West Africa. Likely 19th century/early 20th century, possibly older. Approximate size, 8"H x 5"W
PROVENANCE: From the estate of Dr. Philip Gould, New York
Condition: Losses to terracotta, face heavily encrusted
